An Insider's Guide To Choosing Paraben Free Beauty Products

By Lelia Hall

If you want to feel as good as you look, you may want to consider using skin care products and makeup that does not contain harmful chemicals or irritants. Items such as paraben free beauty products can still keep you looking good but may not put your health at risk the way some chemically-laden products will. Here is a guide to choosing the right products for you.

Parabens are chemicals that help increase a product's shelf life. They do this by making it more difficult for fungi and bacteria to grow in a product. For manufacturers, this is a good thing as it allows them to sell a particular product for longer without it spoiling.

Although most people tend to focus on external issues such as skin irritation or redness, the fact is that these chemicals can have much more of an impact than you might think. For example, girls that are exposed to them tend to start the puberty process much earlier than they may otherwise have done. Also, boys can have health issues if they were exposed to these chemicals while they are being carried in utero.

If you start researching this family of chemicals, it may surprise you to see just how many individual types of paraben there are. They all tend to have the word paraben as the last portion of the name and so they can be very easy to see. You may also be shocked by the number of different options that fall within this category of chemicals.

You will find that there are more all-natural items available now than there were years ago. Unfortunately, they still have higher price tags attached to them. This is because natural ingredients are usually more pricey than synthetic versions. Another issue that natural ingredients have is that they may not be as effective for as long as their manufactured counterparts. Although this is a definite drawback, it can be worthwhile if your health is not put at risk.

While the internet may seem like the ideal place to start your search you may want to approach it in a different way. You may want to try to find items at local stores. There are a couple of advantages to this. The first is that you can try samples. Look for any redness or irritation as this may be a sign that you will have to keep looking. You may also want to be able to read the ingredient list in person rather than trying to find out what ingredients are in something you have seen on a website.

If you decide that you want to completely eliminate these chemicals you will need to check a wide range of products. You may be surprised to learn that some food products also contain these chemicals. It can mean a huge change and a large expense. Because of this, you may want to switch out one or two products at a time until you have totally eliminated parabens.

Taking the time to do your research is worthwhile. Then, you can get the look you want without worrying about the hidden toxins that you might be putting in your system.
