Useful Tips On Probiotics For Constipation

Who will not be frustrated if you already feel like taking a "go" but simply couldn't? Probiotics for constipation would solve this unpleasant experience that the digestive system goes through. Once this happens, anyone may feel the need to visit the most accessible grocery store and grab some packs of yogurt or any other food with probiotics in it; believing it could cure their digestive woes. But will pribiotics really treat constipation?

When we talk of bacteria, we automatically think of disease causing microbes. However, a human body actually consists of both bad and good bacteria. The good bacteria that may even be beneficial in keeping a healthy digestive system are called Probiotics. They are naturally to be found in the body.

In the mid-1990s people began to be curious regarding probiotics as food manufacturers also began putting in probiotics supplements on food. Two most commonly known probiotics beneficial for the digestive system are the Bifidobacterium and Lactobaciterium; which makes up the major bacteria species found in the large intestines.

Despite its potential capacity to ease constipation, probiotics are not yet accepted as a primary medicine for treating the said digestive concern. Probiotics do not offer immediate relief for constipation. They do however keep the digestive system working properly as they manage to keep the balance of water and electrolytes absorption in the digestive tract. This too, prevents microbes and promotes regular bowel movements. It goes without saying that probiotics serve more as a preventive element for constipation rather than an instant cure.

In addition, Bifidobacterium and Lactobacterium encourage the secretion of mucous through the conversion of bound bile salts that will later enhance water production in the colon to soften stool which can then be easily eliminated. Probiotics also secrete short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) that increase muscle contractions by lowering the pH level in the colon. So these microorganisms that is specially introduced into the body for its health benefits can indeed assist in moving food through your digestive tract.

The best probiotics for treating constipation, however, is yet to be recognized since all studies that were made has been inconclusive. The researches made have different designs with vastly varied results and to make a solid recommendation is just not yet possible.

What is beneficial for one may not be effective to another person. Until concrete evidence has been found regarding probiotics, the matter still rests on the hands of the person concerned. Since taking probiotics are free from side effects, experimenting on its usage is safe.

If you wish to find probiotics, they are present on cultured or fermented food and dairy products such as yogurt, buttermilk, soy drinks, and miso among many others. The probiotics or good bacteria are naturally produced in some food, and are added as supplements in others. If you wish to have it through dietary supplements, many are available in drugstores and supermarkets. If uncertain, a knowledgeable dietician will save the day for you.
