The Risk Factors You Should Know To Keep Away From Testicular Cancer

By Francis Riggs

It is important for all men to know that the cancer that affects testicles is becoming a global health challenge today. It is not like in the past where only a few cases were evident. Lifestyles have changed and this requires men to be very alert with this cancerous condition. What men should know are the signs they should observe while doing self examination at home. On the other hand, a visit to your doctor will help you know how you could stay away from testicular cancer as well the risk factors that cause them.

One of the major risk factors is testicles that fail to descend. Most people do not know that testicles in male babies develop when they are in their mothers womb. Normally, the testicles find their way into the scrotum when the baby is born or later in their first year of life. But, in some boys, the testicles fail to descend to the scrotum and this becomes a major health issue to them.

When the worst happens and the testicles of your child completely fail to descend to their respective storage bag, surgery becomes the most effective solution to this problem. Through surgery, doctors are able to move the testicles to the scrotum and this boosts the reproductive life of the boy child. However, this surgical process may expose the child to developing this problem especially if the surgery happens to boys under the age of 13.

If you had this cancerous condition before and recovered from it, you should not do away with close medical examination by your doctor since the problem may recur. Normally, this problem does not affect both of your testes at the same time. It affects one testicle at a time and if you had surgical procedure on one testicle, you should take more caution to the other.

Some people do not really understand that age is a factor to consider when preventing this condition. Today, men who are middle aged are the most prone to this cancerous condition in relation to the older men. For instance, men with age bracket of 15-49 years are more prone to this problem than men who are 70 years of age. Similarly, white men in Europe are prone to this challenge than men from other different communities.

You also need to know that family history is a great risk factor that you should not easily dismiss. If one of your close family members such as your father had this cancerous problem, you are likely to get it also. In fact, you are 4-6 times likely to develop this cancerous problem if your father had it. If your twin brother has this cancer, your chances of developing it may rise to about 75 percent.

Your body has an important gland called endocrine that does many functions in the body at the same time. If this gland is disrupted in any way, it may affect you in different and severe ways. Chemicals and other products such as pesticides are major causes of this disruption to the gland and it may eventually affect the health of your testicles.

Finally, smoking and infertility can also cause this problem. Fertile men may not be at risk of developing this problem as infertile men are. Men who smoke 10 cigarettes a day for about 25 years have higher chances of developing this health problem.
