A few years ago salon chairs were simply a place to sit your client and raise them high enough to work on their hair. They were usually basic black and had little style so they could fit any room without standing out. While these served a function they did nothing but detract from the ambiance of the salon.
Step forward a few years and salons are no longer a place you have to go to get a haircut. They are a place to be pampered. With this change in function comes a change in the design. That basic functional chair is outdated and needs to be changed.
Because the modern salon must have ambiance to attract new clients the furnishings and design play a major role. Many salons will start with the chair and base the theme of the salon around it. This look can even be part of your branding which in turn will attract new clients to the business. With you salon chair playing a major role in the success of your salon the decision of what to purchase should not be taken lightly.
Most salon owners will drive down to the local beauty supply store and find they carry the same old, outdated chairs and shampoo bowls we already talked about. Nothing to set the salon apart from the rest. The next place is searching online. Many will end up online where they sell a lot of lower priced pieces made in China. They look a lot better than the local stuff but looks can be deceiving. Everything look good in a photo but the real test is how it is made.
When online you find mostly China made products. While most look really nice in a photo the bottom line is they are manufactured not to last for many years but to be a low cost look a like to higher quality goods. While this sounds fine the reality is the only way to reduce cost is to cut corners. Metal frames are replaces with second grade wood or fiberglass, $100.00 a yard high end vinyl is replaced with $2.00 a year goods and foam cushions that will last 15 years are replaced with the lowest quality one can find. They usually go flat after a couple months.
If you would go with a higher end chair the materials used are all top quality. The frame is designed to work and made for higher grade materials. The cushion is 20 times the cost and will hold it's shape for the next 10 years. While the cost is usually double for a good chair it will last many time longer and still have resale value when you are ready to update the look of your salon.
